On New at Noon, Larry, you played a Kenyan Christmas song, with words in the Luo language. As a matter of trivial interest, that is the tribe to which Barack Obama’s father belonged.

I had the pleasure of going to London on a much-anticipated UK vacation, and, on a whim, checked St. Martin in the Fields’ website to determine if there would be any concerts. To my delight, there was a concert scheduled and on the only free evening that I had. We saw the sights during the day, returned to our hotel to rest, change, and go to the concert, stopping, of course, in SMITF’s gift store. I had to have some items from one of classical music’s “meccas”!
We also decided to have some dinner in SMITF’s “vault”, which typically British in their food offerings (no complaints - fruit, Stilton cheese, some wonderful bread and “apple pie”). Apple pie in the UK is actually more of an apple cobbler (no crust), which is then smothered (flooded!) with vanilla custard. More than enough for two, and definitely qualifying as comfort food. The vault restaurant is hardly a quiet venue for dinner, but fun nonetheless.
Upon going to the chapel, I was fortunate to have tickets two rows from the front (buy them on-line as they were sold out!). Imagine my surprise when I did not hear Vivaldi’s 4 Seasons, but, one of my earliest favorites, Bach’s Brandenburg 3 began….I was in baroque heaven! I was seated in “mecca” listenting to my earliest favorite pieces of music.
What an amazing experience.
We’re planning another UK trip in 2011!
